Job Duties Geisinger's Ophthalmology department in Northeast Pennsylvania is growing and seeking Optometrists (doctor of optometry, OD) to join our multidisciplinary practice at our new practice location in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Job details Geisinger's Department of Ophthalmology is a highly successful, dynamic, and growing multi-specialty group with both optometrists and ophthalmologists, including Cataract / Comprehensive as well as subspecialists in Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, Oculoplastics, and Pediatrics Ability to take on a new practice Experience or Residency training preferred Opportunity to develop and grow a low vision and specialty contact practice Our highly trained Optometrists practice medical optometry, to the highest scope of practice, working closely and co-managing patients with our ophthalmologists. A health care professional who is licensed to provide primary eye care services. Optometrists examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases; diagnose related systemic (body-wide) conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes; examine, diagnose and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia; and prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low-vision rehabilitation and medications. Optometrists also perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies.
