Registered Nurse-Perioperative
Duties include but not limited to the following:
Demonstrates flexibility, acceptance to change, and a willingness to become functional in all areas of patient care. Encompasses the total nursing process in an outpatient setting. Assumes responsibility of charge nurse duties identifying and resolving daily problems. Administers infusions of:
Prolastin, Sandoglobulin, TPN, Blood and Blood products, IV fluid replacement, electrolye, minerals, and antibiotics. Maximizes computer technology by utilizing Surgical and PCE package, Appointment Menu, Health Summary, CDROM, ICD9 and CPT coding. Utilizes a diversity of pre and post procedure instructional materials to meet individual patient needs. Prepares the ambulatory patient for surgery by ensuring his/her PAT's, Pulmonary and Cardiology clearance, consents, H&P are completed, WNL and available on chart. Ensures that reliable post-op home care and transportation is available, and assesses the patient/care giver's readiness and knowledge to care for them self post-op. Prepares patients for a variety of GI, radiology, pulmonary, cardiology, ophthalmology, urology medical procedures that are performed on an outpatient basis. Ensures patient's readiness for post procedure outpatient discharge. Work Schedule:

A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the U.S. and the RN has registration in that country (e.g., Philippines). The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VAThe completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a Bachelor's Degree is not awarded. Perioperative experience preferred. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
